Play Classical Guitar

If you want to learn to play a musical instrument I believe you should Play Classical Guitar as this is one of the oldest and most versatile musical instruments. If you learn to play classical guitar this will stand you in good stead for learning to play rock or jazz and electric guitars. The techniques required to play classical guitar once mastered will pretty much allow you to play any other guitar you choose.

The parts of the instrument are the same for all guitars, see the labels on the diagram above, however you will not be able to put steel strings on a Classical Guitar as they are designed for nylon strings, and would not be able to take the additional strain of the steel strings, which require higher tension.

The look and beauty of the Classical Guitar is enhanced by the tendency for the face board woods to orange with age, and the fretboard is usually made of a hard wood such as mahogany or rosewood, often times this can be inlaid in places with position markers, usually at the 5th, 8th and 13th frets. The position markers are used to guide the player when making swift changes of the left hand position.

If you want to learn to Play Classical Guitar there are many sites on the web which offer lessons and videos to aid in instruction and you will probably find a good local instructor by referring to your local newspaper and music store (if you have one).

For parents whose children believe that the Classical Guitar is restricting as you can not play rock etc. without an electric, they should watch this video of Edgar Cruz:-
